#HOW TO SPLIT AN AVCHD COLLECTION INTO INDIVIDUAL FILES SOFTWARE#
I understand that DR works in a much expanded colorspace than Premiere, and I guess that's why the file compatibility and size issues.but myself, honestly, I do not need film-grade colorizing.I WANT it.but have gotten by for years with colorizing in Adobe.what I need is fast and efficient editing workflow with my file types that wont require buying all sorts of new hardware and software to get me to the point I was before with Premiere but with Resolve. If I have to set up batch transcodes to go overnight, fine.but its not "necessary".Premiere didnt need it. I chose to leave Adobe's stupid cloud software/extortion setup to try Studio 16.and will tweak my workflow to a degree as needed. So now, what do I keep ON the system versus clean off? That means that for a 3 camera shoot where I would have tied up under 100GB in camera footage I now will tie up almost 300GB.

The "optimized" file added 67 GB to the system and a full hour to complete. That is ONE camera on a three camera shoot. In Resolve, I tried the "optimized media" tact for one 60 minute (?) video file. and two to consider saving for posterity. I am sure that is a similar workflow as many.īut if the footage has to be transposed, that is now at least TWO copies of the same footage tying up space. At some point I offload the entire project folder to a USB drive for posterity. I have lots of space and like the instant access I get doing that.

I keep the files in storage on my edit system.

I like to copy my camera files to my PC right away.work with them, edit and deliver the final.THEN delete the files off the camera cards. Transcoding means DUPLICATING already HUGE files to even BIGGER ONES possibly. Premiere has handled my XAVC files just for the past 5 years.AVCHD too when I use them. It's not "laziness".nor misunderstanding. still in 2020, people are too lazy and can't understand. I have been fighting for the same opinion for many years.

yes, it can be time-consuming, but that's what batch file processing and nights are all about "

If I can find a way if importing AVCHD files so that they are easy to handle as in FCPX then I would be happy. The problem is Apple and Adobe seem to have lost the plot (but that is for a differnt thread) To be honest if FCPX was on PC I would probalby stay with it. What I am getting is not the clips I shot but a large number of MTS files. As FCPX does seemlessly it did not occure to me that DR would not. Not going to spend money on it untill I have tried out the workflow etc.Īs most of my cameras are Panasonic and use AVCHD I need an NLE that supports it.

Thanks for the comment but we want to move off the old MAC's to PC's and FCPX only run's on MAC.Īssume you are using Studio (versus the free version?)īut I am also a newbie to DR and still figuring out the landscape so I am hoping I can figure out the workarounds well enough to STAY with DR.it is very robust (though some odd workflow differences compared to Premiere for me). Uli Plank wrote:Stick to FCP-X, it's better for that camera. Not all of us can afford to go out and buy a new camera just to run a piece of software. To me, not being able to handle XAVC natively and perfectly is a pretty major issue. I am hoping I didn't jump into DR too soon. Trying the whole "generate optimized file" thing now, but I do long format stuff.3-4 cameras, 90 minutes of running footage each.tying up twice the hard drive space and spending hours generating the files may be my only chance to using DR in my workflow.

Well, DR loads the files an plays them.but with all the stuttering I am experiencing, it makes them unusable for professional editing. I just bought studio, lured by the fact that it "supports" XAVC h264.where as free does not.looking to get out from under Adobe's terrible "pay forever" plans. Premiere has been doing it for years now. No excuse for them to not be handled well. That's all well and good to say.but the fact of the matter is that that format, as well as XAVC, are widely used by professionals for varying reasons.
